Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow, a member firm of Baker McKenzie in Singapore, has hired Theodore Heng as the principal of its M&A group. Heng moved from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he was a senior associate for more than a year.

Heng is experienced in dealing with corporate and transactional matters across sectors ranging from the financial services and healthcare to the energy industries, with a focus on cross-border M&A, private capital and venture capital deals that are often technology-linked.

His clients include global financial sponsors, multinational corporates, and technology startups in the Asia-Pacific region.

Boo Bee Chun, head of the M&A practice in Singapore, is upbeat about the island country’s private equity markets. “Singapore’s growth as a regional investment hub is evident with the rising number of major private equity funds and family offices choosing it as a base to invest in the Southeast Asia region,” said Boo.

“As transformative pressures from the global energy transition and disruptive technologies continue to reshape industries and economies, we expect to see continued healthy levels of private equity activities in the region as financial sponsors and their investee companies seek to strategically align themselves to meet the demands of this evolving landscape,” she added.
