Aircraft leasing and financing specialist Niel Liebenberg has left his role as general counsel at China Aircraft Leasing Company to join Bird & Bird as a partner in its aviation team in Singapore.
Liebenberg has more than 24 years of private practice and in-house legal experience. He started his career at the aircraft lessor in 2016 as an acting general counsel in Hong Kong.
In his new role, he will focus on growing the team’s capabilities on projects across all facets of the aviation industry and will work closely with colleagues across Asia, including in Singapore, Hong Kong, and mainland China, to support key clients across the region.
Leo Fattorini, co-head of Bird & Bird’s international aviation and aerospace sector group in Singapore, said that as the aviation industry continues to recover in the Asia-Pacific, Liebenberg’s addition is a key part of the firm’s strategy for the region to expand its team.
