Herbert Smith Freehills has promoted Siddhartha Shukla and Dhananjaya Chak to the partnership of its India practice.

Shukla has advised on key international M&A transactions involving Bharti group, ArcelorMittal, Godrej Consumer, JSW Steel, InterGlobe and Reliance among others.

“My practice covers high-value, complex cross-border M&A transactions, including joint ventures and private capital investments. As part of that I will continue to focus on growing our India practice which has been No.1 for over 14 years,” Shukla said.

He has more than 10 years of experience in several sectors involving international cases.

Chak heads HSF’s top-tier India project finance practice. He has extensive experience acting for sponsors and lenders on brownfield infrastructure acquisition financings across Europe and the UK, as well as greenfield project financing in Africa and Southeast Asia.

His clients include the International Finance Corporation, GIC, EDEN India and Azure Power.

“The energy and infrastructure finance space in India has huge potential and the scale of international financing investment required to achieve the country’s stated objectives presents a unique opportunity for international law firms like HSF to assist developers and lenders alike,” Chak told India Business Law Journal.

“As the head of HSF’s India project finance practice I will be responsible for coordinating these efforts across London, Singapore, HK and our other key offices.”

Both Shukla and Chak are dual-qualified in England and Wales (solicitor) and India (advocate, non-practising).

Their elevation is part of the firm’s move to promote 34 lawyers to partnership globally.
