Wintell & Co has opened its Beijing office, making a significant addition to its nationwide expansion plans.
Chi Rida, co-chair of the firm’s management committee, said the opening of the Beijing office represented a crucial milestone in Wintell’s journey towards nationalisation and globalisation.
Mervyn Chen, director and co-chair of the management committee, said this decision was prompted by the demands of clients, particularly state-owned enterprises. He previously told China Business Law Journal that many tenders from Beijing’s state-owned enterprises required law firms to have a local branch to meet localisation requirements.
Wintell reformed on 17 October 2023 following a merger with Gongcheng Law Firm, based in northeastern China. At the time, Chen expressed his intention to prioritise strategies in Beijing and Shenzhen. The Shenzhen office was subsequently opened in December that year.
