Former Khaitan & Co lawyer Rajat Jariwal joins Trilegal as a partner in the disputes resolution team at the New Delhi office from this month.

“We expect him [Jariwal] to play a crucial role in the firm’s growing ESG (environment, social and governance) practice and to contribute both on advisory matters as well as on environmental litigation defence,” said Sridhar Gorthi, partner and member of the management committee at Trilegal.

“We see his expertise as being highly complementary to our disputes practice and in particular to our infrastructure, real estate and asset management practices.”

Jariwal, who had been a Khaitan partner for more than 12 years, is a commercial litigation lawyer with more than 17 years of experience in the legal industry. He specialises in environmental defence litigation and environment advisory matters, and has represented clients in the Supreme Court and National Green Tribunal.

He even focuses on corporate commercial litigation, private equity disputes, commercial arbitration (international and domestic) and disputes involving environment, mining and related issues.

Jariwal has represented multinational companies in several high-stake environment litigations and also advised on general civil, and commercial disputes, including shareholder disputes (before the National Company Law Tribunal and arbitral tribunals, both institutional and ad-hoc), tender matters, defamation issues, and mining concerns stemming from the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulations Act.

With his appointment, the total partnership strength at Trilegal now stands at 82.

This year, India Business Law Journal recognised Jariwal as a leading lawyer in the environment practice space.
