The Thai Corporate Counsel Association (Thai-CCA) recently joined forces with Tilleke & Gibbins for the Rights & Reels Talk event, an industry-focused forum aimed at bridging the gap between legal frameworks and creative practices in Thailand’s entertainment sector.

Held on 28 May 2025 at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, the event was a collaborative effort involving CineToys, WhiteLight Studio and TECNA. With the rise of digital-first content and the expanding influence of streaming platforms, the Thai-CCA’s support for such educational events reflects its ongoing commitment to equip members with the tools to navigate complex IP, licensing and compliance challenges.

The session was led by Kasama Sriwatanakul, partner at Tilleke & Gibbins and co-head of its regional media and entertainment practice, and Frank DeMartini, film producer and legal executive.

CineToys CEO Picha Srisansanee and Frank DeMartini, film producer and general counsel of Millennium Media, share industry insights into Thailand’s film and media landscape.

Sriwatanakul provided an overview of Thailand’s legal landscape for film and content production, highlighting key issues such as copyright registration, local compliance and contractual protections. Meanwhile, DeMartini provided a global perspective on content ownership, cross-border licensing and the growing influence of streaming platforms on traditional production models.

The event also benefited from input from WhiteLight Studio, a Netflix content producer in Thailand, which helped shape the agenda to reflect the real-world needs of modern content creators.

The audience included in-house counsel, producers, directors, screenwriters and legal advisers across the entertainment industry. The post-panel networking session provided opportunities for engagement and knowledge exchange, with many participants expressing strong interest in deeper conversations around content rights and legal risk management.

By facilitating cross-sector collaboration, the Thai-CCA played a vital role in the event’s success and in fostering a deeper understanding of entertainment law in Thailand.
