RPC has hired Hilda Chan from Nixon Peabody as a partner in the Hong Kong office to strengthen its Asia corporate practice, particularly in the city and the Greater China region.
“Having Hilda within our partnership will allow us to grow our regional footprint and cross-office collaboration across corporate and transactional work,” RPC’s partner and head of the Hong Kong office, Charles Allen, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Allen emphasised that her hire reflected a targeted focus on the expansion of RPC’s presence and service to mainland Chinese clients and an expansion of the firm’s technology, innovation and emerging company advisory capabilities.
Before her previous role as a Nixon Peabody partner, Chan had practised as a partner at Dorsey & Whitney. Apart from gaining 15 years of experience in M&A, private equity, capital markets, restructurings and corporate advisory work, Chan also has a growing tech-focused practice, advising on data privacy, cybersecurity and transactions involving emerging companies.
Chan’s longstanding relationships with PRC clients and her fluency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin also positioned her to expand RPC’s China-facing capabilities, said Allen.
As a partner in RPC’s Hong Kong office, Chan’s key responsibilities include leading and growing the corporate practice, especially in the Greater China market, advising clients on complex M&A, private equity, capital markets and corporate matters, and driving the firm’s technology-related legal services, including data privacy, cybersecurity and advising tech startups.
He added that, while Chan would be based in RPC’s Hong Kong office, she would collaborate closely with partners Kenneth Leong and Kiat Wee Lau in Singapore. She would also actively contribute to regional mandates, particularly those involving PRC, Southeast Asia and broader Asia-Pacific interests, said Allen.
