Milestones for two top firms provide cause for celebration

May was a milestone month for a couple of top-tier firms in China. On 18 May, Zhong Lun Law Firm celebrated its 20th anniversary, while on 24 May, Baker & McKenzie’s Shanghai office celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Partners and lawyers from Zhong Lun’s 10 offices around the world, as well as the firm’s guests, gathered in Beijing to mark the occasion.

Zhong Lun was one of the first private law firms to be established in China and has grown from a small-scale domestic law firm with one or two specialised practice areas into a full-service firm reaching domestic and international markets.

“Looking back over 20 years, we feel deeply honoured to have lived in this era and are grateful to our country’s reform and opening-up policies. Without China’s opening up, without the rapidly growing economy, without continuous reform of the legal service industry, we would not have today’s Zhong Lun,” said the firm’s managing partner, Zhang Xuebing.

Baker & McKenzie’s Shanghai office saw more than 100 guests join its celebration. Danian Zhang, chief representative of the firm’s Shanghai office, thanked the firm’s clients for their confidence and trust.

“We will continue to draw on our global experience and local knowledge to assist our clients to tackle regulatory and business issues from all legal angles, and provide them with a holistic and commercially pragmatic solution,” he said.

Baker & McKenzie was among the first group of international law firms to establish a presence in mainland China, opening the Beijing office in 1993 and the Shanghai office in 2003.
