Merits & Tree Law Offices has expanded its Chengdu and Beijing offices with the addition of partners Tang Liang, Wang Yao and Meng Jiru.

The Chengdu-based Tang, a former senior partner and director at the Urumqi branch of AllBright Law Offices, specialises in handling investment, M&A and dispute resolution matters. With a focus on the new energy and new material sectors, he has advised many state-owned and central government-backed companies on energy projects in western China.

Wang, who will be based in Chengdu and the previous partner at Jingtian & Gongcheng, is well-versed in the investment, M&A and PE/VC sectors. He has represented various financing and investment projects related to the US, and handled international civil litigation and commercial arbitration. In 2018, Wang was involved in the first batch of overseas talent recognised by the Ministry of Justice.

As the former head of the restructuring and reorganisation department at Yunting Law Firm, Meng brings a wealth of experience in this field to the Beijing team at Merits & Tree. He has served as the administrator of nearly 20 insolvent enterprises and has represented creditor and investor clients in large-scale insolvency reorganisation projects. Proficient in Japanese, Meng has acted as counsel to insolvency cases between China and Japan.
