Global law firm Mayer Brown has entered a joint law venture (JLV) with Singapore firm PK Wong & Nair to establish Mayer Brown PK Wong & Nair to provide clients with an integrated service, offering seamless advice on international and Singapore law.

Mayer Brown’s chair in Chicago, Jon Van Gorp, said the firm has built a highly competitive and dynamic offering in Singapore in the past 10 years.

“The continued growth of the market as an international legal hub, along with the increasing prominence of Singapore law as a preferred governing law across Southeast Asia, has driven client demand for an integrated local and international service offering,” said Van Gorp.

Mark Wong, co-managing director of PK Wong & Nair, said the firm had been working with Mayer Brown for a number of years and forming a joint law venture through its Singapore office was the logical step forward.

“As an established locally grown Singapore law firm, the increasingly international dimension of the work we undertake for our clients, means that finding a partner with an aligned global platform is a strategic imperative,” said Wong.

PK Wong & Nair was formed from a 2020 merger of PK Wong & Associates with a boutique dispute resolution and insolvency firm Nair & Co. The firm’s previous iteration was PK Wong & Advani, which was co-founded by senior director Wong Peng Koon in 1986. The firm is led by co-managing directors Suresh Nair and Mark Wong, and has more than 20 lawyers.

Mayer Brown opened its Singapore office in 2011 and has more than 25 lawyers, including 13 partners, advising clients on a broad range of cross-border transactions, projects and disputes across Southeast Asia.
