March provided a month of moot moments, as Hong Kong’s 10th annual Willem C Vis (East) International Commercial Arbitration Moot was the largest event yet, while City University of Hong Kong took top honours in the 20th Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot held in Vienna.

louiseThe Hong Kong moot gathered about 1,000 arbitrators, coaches and law students and the major award went to the University of Canberra after a close argument with Westfalische Wilhelms-Universitat Munster. Hong Kong’s Secretary of Justice, Rimsky Yuen, visited the moot along with the Deputy Solicitor-General Peter Wong, who watched a match between Peking University and Harvard from the US.

Vis East Director Louise Barrington said it was gratifying to see the improvement in the level of Asian teams that have been attending for the past two or three years. “There’s a new arbitration culture growing in Asia and Vis East is a big part of that,” she said.
