The Lord Mayor of the City of London has added his name to the list of international figures calling for India to open its legal market to foreign law firms.
Alderman David Lewis also appealed for greater leverage for multinational banks in India at a forum on Business Competitiveness in a Globalized World held in London in April.
The talks were organized by the Indo-British Partnership. Also attending the meeting was Jayant Dasgupta, India’s joint secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Martin Hagen, vice-president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales; Nipun Gupta, a partner and head of the India Group at Bird & Bird; Vijaya Sampath, group general counsel and company secretary of Bharti Enterprises; and Amber Dubey, director of business advisory services at KPMG.
