Piyush Gupta has joined Kochhar & Co in Gurgaon as a partner and the head of its competition advisory group.
Gupta has almost a decade of experience in the competition law regimes of India and Singapore and has worked both in-house as a company lawyer and at law firms. Before joining Kochhar & Co, he was a senior legal counsel at IndiGo Airlines and prior to that worked in Singapore as an associate at Rajah & Tann and as part of the legal team at Singapore Airlines (Cargo).
Law firms and in-house counsel have been struggling to get to grips with India’s new competition laws for the past few years. “The Competition Commission of India [CCI], since its inception has penalized a whole host of companies across varied sectors from real estate and cement to LPG gas cylinders,” Gupta told India Business Law Journal. “This is a tremendous time to be in a position to advise clients across varied industries in respect of competition law compliance.”
