K&L Gates has hired debt capital markets partner Jay Lee in Hong Kong, who joined from Simmons & Simmons.

The Hong Kong and US-qualified lawyer specialises in advising RMB bonds, G3 bonds, equity-linked products, high-yield bonds, asset-backed securities and structured financing. He also advises on structured debt products and derivatives transactions as well as mergers and acquisitions.

Lee was a leading partner in advising the Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility (CGIF) on the first Malaysian ringgit-denominated green bond issued by an arm of Korean multinational conglomerate Hanwha Group.

CGIF, a multilateral facility established by the governments of China, Japan, Korea and Asean members as well as the Asian Development Bank, was acting as the guarantor for the MYR150 million (USD32 million) green bonds.

Prior to Simmons & Simmons, Lee was the head of the debt capital markets legal team across northeast Asia at Standard Chartered Bank, and practised at Skadden.

K&L Gates added Iris Leung as a Hong Kong-based partner in October, who was previously a capital markets partner at Linklaters.
