IInfosys Technologies has joined the burgeoning legal process outsourcing (LPO) market, hiring a top international lawyer to head up a soon-to-be-launched LPO.

The firm appointed Karyln Stanley, a former in-house lawyer at AT&T and former partner at Washington-based technology firm Cole Raywid & Braverman (now Davis Wright & Tremaine) to head up the business in the US.

Infosys plans to acquire clients in Europe, the Middle East and the US and is currently hiring US and Indian lawyers ahead of the launch, the Economic Times reported.

Not only does Infosys hope to attract existing clients to its new services, but it also plans to leverage its name recognition to attract law firms weary of outsourcing to India.

“LPO in isolation may not provide you with scale but along with other services, it helps us build long-term client relationships,” said Infosys BPO CEO and managing director Amitabh Chaudhry. Infosys plans to develop the LPO to encompass a range of practices with more than 1,000 staff in five years.
