The chief judicial magistrate for the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh (MP) has ordered five Hershey executives to attend a hearing in April following allegations that the company has violated India’s Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
The MP Biodiversity Board has alleged that Hershey India has breached sections 3 and 7 of the act, which prescribe that foreign companies must obtain approval from the National Biodiversity Authority before using biological resources for commercial purposes. The MP Biodiversity Board filed a court petition after sending Hershey India multiple violation notices to which the company did not respond.
