Singapore-headquartered law firm Helmsman has established new practice groups – commercial disputes, employment, and corporate, banking and finance – to join the existing shipping and commodities practice groups.

This launch marks the firm’s official transition from a dedicated shipping and commodities specialist into a multidisciplinary law firm.

“In the past three years, the firm has carefully and patiently selected and hired senior lawyers with the requisite expertise and who share the firm’s practice ethos to head the practice groups,” said Maureen Poh, director and head of the shipping practice at Helmsman in Singapore.

“The intensity of the recruitment process is to ensure that the selected candidates meet the cultural fit.”

Ian Teo, managing director and founding director at Helmsman in Singapore, added that with growing integrated cross-sector business activities and requests from existing clients, the firm’s expansion into a multidisciplinary law firm was a natural process.

Helmsman was founded in 2018 in Hong Kong and incorporated the Singapore office in 2019. The firm will introduce the heads of the new practice groups in the next few weeks.
