Haiwen & Partners has hired another Zhao Sheng Law Firm partner, Benran Huang, following the recent addition of Eric Liu, formerly the managing partner at the Linklaters’ China joint operation.
Private equity and M&A specialist Huang joins Haiwen in the Beijing office, focusing on legal matters in the TMT, manufacturing, consumer and healthcare sectors.
Last year, Linklaters’ Indonesian associate firm Widyawan & Partners along with a team from Zhao Sheng led by Huang, advised TikTok on its USD1.5 billion acquisition of Indonesian tech giant GoTo’s online shopping platform Tokopedia.
At the end of last year after Liu’s departure, Zhao Sheng underwent a management change, with Richard Gu, a corporate partner based in Shanghai, taking over as the new managing partner.
Haiwen has been expanding its cross-border talent pool since the second half of 2023, including hiring the managing partner in Beijing at Herbert Smith Freehills, Tom Chau, the head and director of China projects at Mayer Brown – Hallam Chow and Boya Shen – and Alibaba’s senior counsel Fu Duan.
