The Federation of Indian Corporate Lawyers (FICL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) on 26 November to promote international arbitration as a preferred method for resolving global disputes.

The FICL was represented by its founder and CEO, Ashok Sharma, and president, SB Mitra, while the SIAC was represented by its CEO, Gloria Lim, at the signing ceremony in New Delhi.

“[The collaboration with the SIAC] will deepen ties between our two organisations while enabling the FICL to provide enhanced capacity building programmes in international arbitration for our members,” said Sharma.

Lim added that the MoU provides an excellent platform for the SIAC to ensure its services meet the needs of companies in India. “The SIAC will work with FICL to provide practical programmes that deepen Indian corporate lawyers’ knowledge of international arbitration law and practice,” said Lim.

Under the MoU, both organisations will jointly hold conferences, seminars and workshops on international arbitration in India and Singapore and will invite key members of their local arbitration community to attend and participate.

The SIAC will conduct training programmes on international arbitration for FICL’s members and provide marketing support for each other’s international arbitration-related events.
