Corporate lawyer David Liao, most previously at Chinese law firm Fangda Partners in Hong Kong, has joined Morgan Lewis in the city as a partner, focusing on the debt capital markets.

Liao was a partner at Fangda in Hong Kong for almost five years. He has an extensive background in the issuance of investment-grade bonds, high-yield bonds and debt and equity hybrid instruments, as well as tender offers, exchange offers, consent solicitations and other liability management transactions in connection with debt securities that could be governed by US, UK or Hong Kong law.

He advises clients from the corporate world, investment banks and other financial institutions throughout Asia, as well as representing underwriters and issuers in debt capital market transactions.

“Our global capital markets practice is a key focus for our firm,” said Morgan Lewis’ chair in Philadelphia, Jami McKeon. “Our clients will benefit greatly from adding a seasoned lawyer in Asia on the debt side to our leading Hong Kong practice in equity capital markets transactions.”
