The tagline under the title proudly announces that the book includes writings “on Indina culture …” – the name of the country misspelled by whoever pirated the book in an underground press. The book was purchased on a Delhi street for a fraction of what it would cost at a licensed retailer.
India’s publishing industry is worth an estimated US$1.7 billion, according to the Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Associations of India. The Publishers Association in the UK puts the value of the market at more than US$2.5 billion.
