CALL FOR CANDIDATES IMF ADMINISTRATIVE TRIBUNAL

Description
The International Monetary Fund (the “Fund”) is seeking to fill two vacancies on its Administrative Tribunal (the “Tribunal”). The Tribunal is an independent judicial body, which hears and passes judgment on cases involving employment-related disputes between the Fund and its staff members.
Article VII of the Tribunal Statute provides that the Tribunal shall be composed of five Members, including the President, who “shall have no prior or present employment relationship with the Fund, must be nationals of a member country of the Fund at the time of their appointments and must possess the qualifications required for appointment to high judicial office or be jurisconsults of recognized competence.” Article VIII further provides that the Members of the Tribunal “shall be completely independent in the exercise of their duties…[and] shall not be eligible for staff employment with the Fund following the end of their service with the Tribunal.”
Members of the Tribunal are appointed for a four-year term by the Managing Director after appropriate consultation, and they may be reappointed for a maximum of two additional four-year terms. The Fund intends that the new Tribunal Members will commence their first terms of office on January 1, 2022.
Decisions of the Tribunal are taken by panels composed of the President and two other Members designated by the President. Sessions of the Tribunal are ordinarily held at the Fund’s Washington, D.C. headquarters, approximately twice a year. The Tribunal handles a caseload of approximately two to five cases per year. Tribunal Members are compensated for time spent on the work of the Tribunal. The Tribunal is served by a headquarters-based Registry. Tribunal Judgments are published on the Tribunal website www.imf.org/tribunal. The working language of the Tribunal is English.
