Members of the Baroda Bar Association (BBA) have threatened to go on strike if confusion about the allotment of cases before the Vadodara district court is not cleared up. Recent changes in the allotment have created confusion about which case is on trial at which court.

A delegation of the BBA met with the principal district judge PR Patelin in mid-June to demand changes in the work schedule and threatened to go on an indefinite strike.

Since early June lawyers at the Vadodara court have complained that the shifting of cases from one venue to another is complicating their work.

Many lawyers have also had to wait long periods to be given hearing dates. One senior lawyer said that dates were now being set just to get a date for a court hearing, the Indian Express reported.

The problem has allegedly impacted civil, criminal and appellate courts.

“Cases from one court have been shifted to another but this new system ensures almost no work for the next three years at Vadodara court,” BBA president Narendra Tiwari was quoted as saying.
