Australian law firm Thomsons has strengthened its technology, media and telecommunications capabilities with the addition of partner Luke Standen and special counsel Julie Cheeseman in Sydney.
Standen joins from Gilbert + Tobin, where he spent more than seven years and most recently served as special counsel.
He specialises in complex, high-value digital transformation, technology, telecommunications and outsourcing projects, particularly within regulated sectors such as financial services, telecommunications, transport, government, space, and health and aged care.
He also advises on the deployment of AI and other emerging technologies, data commercialisation, telecommunications regulation, payment services, space law, privacy and data protection regulation, software, content and technology licensing and general corporate and commercial matters.
Cheeseman arrives from Bird & Bird, where she was a partner for four years. Her focus spans regulatory compliance, data breach response and incident management, online content regulation and disputes involving various technologies and complex implementations, including billing, inventory management, customer management, e-health systems, and satellite and cable transmission networks.
She also advises media organisations, digital platforms, technology companies and other entities on complex disputes, regulatory issues and risk management matters.
