Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC) has strengthened its insurance offering in the Asia-Pacific with the appointment of partner Sumyutha Sivamani in Singapore.

Sivamani joins from Clyde & Co, where she spent three years and most recently served as a legal director. She previously worked at RPC for two years as a senior associate.

Possessing more than 14 years of experience, she focuses on complex cyber risk, incident response and data privacy matters. She has also advised insurers, reinsurers and multinational clients on high-value, multi-jurisdictional cyber incidents, coverage disputes and regulatory investigations.

Sivamani’s expertise further extends to financial lines and property and casualty insurance, advising on coverage, regulatory and defence matters.

“Her profile and experience fit extremely well with our existing strengths, not only in insurance but also in the broader cyber and data space, where clients are increasingly looking for sophisticated, specialist support across markets,” Carmel Green, a partner who heads RPC’s Asia insurance team, told Asia Business Law Journal.

Green added that the firm planned to keep bolstering its cyber and data practice with additional hires.

“We now have 14 cyber response-trained lawyers across our two Asia hubs in Singapore and Hong Kong, in addition to our team of specialists in the UK. Growing our cyber insurance presence is an important part of that. It allows us to work even more closely with our existing clients in Singapore and Hong Kong, continue enhancing our regional and global offering for clients, and ensure we can target both insured and un-insured or ‘direct’ cyber response needs,” she said.
