British law firm Allen & Overy and US-based Shearman & Sterling have completed their merger and they now operate under the name A&O Shearman.
The integration involving one of the five magic circle law firms, Allen & Overy, is the biggest merger in the global legal sector in recent years. The combined entity has nearly 4,000 lawyers across the 47 offices around the world, including 800 partners.
A&O Shearman is dedicated to tackling complex cross-border legal issues, it said.
The law firm’s China offices are in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, with a total of 39 partners. Hong Kong-based Vicki Liu and Lorna Chen are the firm’s co-managing partners for Greater China.
Its other offices in the Asia-Pacific region are in Australia, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam.
In October last year, the partners at the UK and US firms voted in favour of the merger, and the integration was completed on Labour Day this year. The combined entity has an estimated gross revenue of USD3.5 billion.
