The government has announced the opening up of the country’s space sector to foreign investors.

Under the new policy approved by the cabinet, foreign direct investment (FDI) restrictions have been relaxed, allowing foreign investors to contribute to various aspects of India’s space industry without as much government oversight.

According to the government, the decision aims to attract potential investors and boost participation from private companies in the space sector.

With easier access to India’s space market, foreign investors can now invest in satellite manufacturing, launch vehicles and associated systems up to 100% under the automatic route.

The government claims several future benefits from this policy shift, including increased employment opportunities, technological advancements and a larger share of the global space market.

The move follows the broader goals outlined in the Indian Space Policy 2023, which seeks to elevate India’s position in the global space economy and promote peaceful applications of space technology.
