The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) has elected Huen Wong as its new chairman. Wong replaces Michael Moser, who steps down from the position this month after an extended four-year term. Moser will continue to serve as a member of the HKIAC’s council and in other capacities. He also sits on the editorial board of China Business Law Journal.

Moser said he leaves the HKIAC in a strong position. “We have a busy caseload and we have a set of user-friendly rules. Over the last few years, a number of important steps have been taken to improve corporate governance, make the arbitrator appointment process more inclusive and transparent, and build strong relations with China and with users in Hong Kong,” he told China Business Law Journal.

However, he also appealed for greater support from the Hong Kong government. “The HKIAC’s biggest challenge is financial. We are a self-supporting not-for-profit entity and our budget is under severe constraints,” he said.
