Sistema Shyam TeleServices (SSTL), a joint venture between Russian telecom operator Sistema and India’s Shyam group, has filed a review petition seeking to overturn a Supreme Court judgment revoking 21 telecom licences granted to SSTL in 2008.
“Sistema and SSTL strongly believe that the Supreme Court in its judgment has not considered several relevant submissions made by SSTL which were specific and unique to its case,” the company said. “SSTL also filed a petition seeking to stay the cancellation of the licences while the review petition is pending.”
SSTL believes that it should be allowed to retain its licences since it is a CDMA operator unlike the other telecom operators whose licences were revoked, which operate GSM platforms. India’s Department of Telecommunications has no plan to auction CDMA spectrum, of which there is no shortage.
