Delhi-based law firm Singhania & Partners has filed a complaint against Microsoft with the Competition Commission of India. The complaint accuses the software company of anti-competitive practices and the abuse of a dominant position, according to news channel CNBC TV18.
Singhania & Partners is accusing Microsoft of price manipulation by compelling its agents in India to adopt differential pricing for sales of original equipment manufacturer licences, volume licences and individual licences of its software. The law firm claims that the practice violates India’s competition rules, which prohibit manufacturers from imposing restrictions on the resale of their products.
Microsoft does not sell directly in India, but distributes its software to five agents in the country, each of which resells the products.
