Rajeshwari Hariharan has decided to step back from the firm she founded in 2010 to become an independent counsel and partner Deepak Sriniwas will run the IP-focused Rajeshwari & Associates, which will remain operational.

Sriniwas will lead the firm’s 11 lawyers, comprising two partners and eight patent agents.

“I love planning and arguing matters in court,” Hariharan said. “To develop a case from a given set of facts, apply the law and present the best to the court.”

As a first-generation lawyer, Hariharan’s journey includes establishing her firm in 2010, making it a reputed name in IP. Speaking about her decision to shift gears, she said she would be “able to focus on core law and have the time and ambience to go deep into legal issues, away from the humdrum of the administrative and ministerial routines of a law practice”, and this progression was natural.

“Over the last few years, I have had many firms and other lawyers briefing me on matters whether at the high court or other courts. So, I thought that this is the right time to plunge into the world of solo lawyers – this is a different adventure,” she said.

Hariharan’s independent practice will focus on IP, company, arbitration and matrimonial matters. Following the principle of “the more things you do, the more you will have time for things”, she also plans on giving lectures at various colleges and devoting her time to writing.

Expressing excitement on her future, she is confident her existing clients will now be pleased to have counsel they already know and can thus trust easily to argue cases for them.“Ultimately, we are here to give our best and render the best possible service to our clients. I will be doing all this, just that I will be an independent practitioner … I am very excited about this new phase,” she said.
