Delhi-based PSA Legal has set up shop in the southern Indian city of Chennai. The firm’s proprietor, Priti Suri, said the decision was taken in order to exploit the “vast, untapped market opportunity” that exists in the south of the country.

The office opened on 5 January and will eventually house seven lawyers. Suri plans to oversee the development of the office herself along with assistance from senior associate Neeraj Dubey. PSA will focus on corporate, commercial, litigation and IP matters in Chennai.

Suri plans to create full-service capability in Chennai, rather than a satellite office, so that clients in the south will approach this office instead of routing their queries through Delhi. “It is critical to have high-quality local lawyers with exceptional skills who understand not only the market realities, but the business perspectives of clients,” Suri told India Business Law Journal. “We also intend to service other clients within the southern region and, to that end, we would like to recruit lawyers from other southern states.

“The focus is never to make money on any single transaction but instead, to develop trust and provide high-quality client deliverables so that there is a win-win situation for everyone,” added Suri.

PSA currently has 17 lawyers.
