A partner at a US law firm has filed a suit in the US district court for the district of Columbia to prevent the outsourcing of privileged client data.
Joseph Hennessey of Newman McIntosh & Hennessey in Bethesda, Maryland, argued that law firms looking to cut costs by outsourcing their legal support services overseas could be jeopardizing client confidentiality.
He said some client data could also be subject to eavesdropping by the US government. Foreign companies have no presumption of privacy because the US National Security Agency is free to spy on them without constitutional constraints.
