Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced the National Logistics Policy (NLP), first mentioned in Budget 2020, to promote seamless transportation of commodities across the nation.

“It is imperative to reduce the logistics cost in India for improving the competitiveness of Indian goods both in domestic as well as export markets,” said the announcement.

The focus of the policy is on process re-engineering, digitalisation, multi-modal transportation, etc. The government had been working on the NLP for three years. The commerce ministry released the first draft of the policy for consultation in 2019, but it was delayed by the pandemic.
