Kay Legal & Associates has promoted Shivani Shah as a majority equity partner and hired Abhijit Ranjan, a chief systems officer from Gravitas Legal, as an equity partner.

Kay Legal had demerged from Delhi-based Gravitas Legal on 31 March 2019. Commenting on the split, Ranjan said the “vision and synergy of the partners did not continue in the same direction and the best course of action was to demerge”.

Kay Legal was co-founded by Amit Karkhanis and Shah in 2011. Apart from the three partners, the firm has five fee earners based in the Fort area of Mumbai.

Shah’s key practice areas are corporate, banking, and mergers & acquisitions, while Ranjan’s practice areas are cyber law, audit and compliance, and taxation.

Kay Legal merged with Gravitas in October 2017, and the firms had a combined strength of 21 lawyers at the time.

The firm specializes in offering advice on legal matters affecting the medical and healthcare industry, and on intellectual property issues. Ranjan added that the firm was also looking to expand its corporate practice.
