Encouraging close for 2013, hopeful beginnings in 2014

Last year, by focusing on improvements to case handling, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) made good progress. The caseload and the amount of claims processed witnessed an obvious increase compared to the previous year.

CIETAC accepted 1,256 cases in total, 375 foreign-related ones and 881 domestic ones – representing an increase of 18% year-on-year. The total disputed amount rose to RMB24.4 billion (US$4 billion), a record high. Parties involved covered 56 countries and regions, and altogether 1,043 cases were closed, an increase of 45% over 2012.
