Britain’s recently elected coalition government has embarked on an ambitious drive to woo India and boost trade and investment between the two countries.
British Prime Minister David Cameron arrived in India on 28 July, bringing with him a formidable delegation of senior politicians, business leaders, academics and the senior partner of a leading magic circle law firm. His entourage also included Olympic medal-winning athletes and the chief executive of the English Premier League.
The size and seniority of the delegation, both of which were unprecedented for a UK trade mission, demonstrate the importance the UK is placing on its relationship with India as it strives to revitalize its lacklustre economy and boost job creation. “This is a trade mission, yes, but I prefer to see it as my jobs mission,” said Cameron while visiting Infosys in Bangalore.
