Baker McKenzie & KL Partners Joint Venture Law Firm has further strengthened its dispute resolution capabilities with international arbitration partner Sunyoung Kim joining the ranks in Seoul.

This addition follows the hiring of Lee & Ko’s senior foreign arbitration attorney David Kim last year.

Nandakumar Ponniya, Asia-Pacific chair of Baker McKenzie’s Dispute Resolution Practice Group, said: “Sunyoung adds to our ever-growing dispute resolution practice. Her international arbitration experience not only complements our regional practice well, but also gives us added depth in Korea, to support our multinational clients with their cross-border risks and challenges.”

Kim, who also previously practised at Lee & Ko as a partner, will officially join Baker McKenzie KLP JV on 20 May this year. Qualified in both South Korea and the US, Kim had previously worked as a Hong Kong-based associate between 2009 and 2012 at Baker McKenzie, which formed a joint venture with Korean international dispute resolution law firm KL Partners last year.

The international arbitration lawyer, who joined Lee & Ko in 2014, focuses on representing clients – including multinational corporations, government entities and defence contractors – in commercial disputes as well as those related to cross-border joint venture and M&A matters.

With additional expertise on investor-state matters, Kim has advised on international arbitration cases brought before arbitration centres and tribunals including International Chamber of Commerce, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre and the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.
