Baker McKenzie has bolstered its capital markets practice in Hong Kong with the addition of partner Chen Sheng, who previously practised at Clifford Chance.

With specialisms in both equity and debt offerings pursuant to Regulations S and Rule 144A under the US Securities and Exchange Commission, as well as global depositary receipts offerings under the Shanghai-London Stock Connect and the China-Switzerland Stock Connect, Chen has worked with clients across a range of industries, including specialised technologies, new energy, life sciences and healthcare, and consumer goods and retail.

Chen’s appointment comes amid optimistic expectations for the Hong Kong capital markets sector.

Partner Christina Lee, the co-head of the capital markets practice group in Hong Kong and China, believed in Hong Kong’s continuing status as the first-choice IPO destination for Chinese issuers.

Lee said the introduction of Chapter 18C in the Listing Rules and the expansion of the interoperability mechanism between HK-PRC stock markets are indicators that Hong Kong IPOs will remain active this year.
