Anand and Anand has stepped up efforts to develop the firm’s corporate practice with the hiring of Taniya Wadhawan as partner and co-head of the practice group.

“Wadhawan will add to the firm’s existing and growing practices such as IPR (intellectual property rights) commercial advisory services, provide assistance in IPR commercial transactions, explore new avenues to expand product offering and foray into new markets,” Safir Anand, senior partner and head of trademarks practice, told Asia Business Law Journal.

“The firm has started advising companies on matters ranging from IP to IPO [initial public offerings], monetization of business models, technology transfers, royalties, franchising, licensing and private equity transactions, bridging the growing demand for diligence, mergers and acquisitions, structuring and restructuring businesses,” Anand said.

“As a part of this exercise, the firm has extensively added to its entertainment, fashion, advertisement law practices and has recently also expanded into competition law and IP. It intends to add more talent to its growing regulatory and compliance practices.”

Wadhawan was previously the head of the corporate practice at Athena Legal for more than four years and has 17 years of experience in the profession.

“This is a very challenging opportunity for me,” she said. “I personally do not believe there are firms, in India or outside, that specialize in one field. If firms have to run the business, they have to be a full-service firm.”
