Greenberg Traurig expands Singapore presence with the hiring of seven lawyers as part of its plan to establish a full-service office in the country.

The firm has added shareholders Jek Aun Long, Benedict Tan, Joshua Heng, Stella Bae, Kyle Oh, and Azlan Mohamed Noh and associate Melvin Ng.

“As Singapore continues to grow in regional and global importance, our clients are increasingly reaching out to us for representation and guidance there, especially in key areas for which we are known, such as private funds, M&A, energy, infrastructure, real estate and disputes,” Richard Rosenbaum, Greenberg Traurig’s executive chairman, told Asia Business Law Journal.

He said these hires were in direct response to those requests, strengthening the firm’s capabilities in Singapore and across Asia.

Long has joined the firm from Simmons & Simmons, where he was Asia head of funds for two years and Singapore office head for three. He advises on private and public funds, including private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure, digital assets, private credit, hedge funds, mutual funds and exchange-traded funds. Long also provides guidance on structuring, establishing, registering and marketing both onshore and offshore investment vehicles.

Tan has also joined from Simmons & Simmons, where he spent two years as a partner. His practice focuses on the structuring and establishment of onshore and offshore collective investment schemes, as well as bespoke managed account arrangements. His experience also spans a wide range of strategies, including hedge, private equity, venture capital, credit, real estate, commodities and digital assets. Additionally, he provides counsel to asset managers throughout their business life cycle, covering key areas such as licensing and registration, employment and immigration, seeding and revenue sharing, among others.

Another lawyer who has joined from Simmons & Simmons is Ng, who spent two years as a supervising associate. Previously, he was an associate corporate counsel at Franklin Resources, an investment management organisation in California, for a year. He focuses on the establishment and registration of investment funds for both private and retail investors in Singapore, and advises fund managers and trustees on cross-border regulatory matters, including licensing, marketing and ongoing compliance.

Meanwhile, Heng was a managing associate at JWS Asia Law Corporation, a Singaporean firm, for six years. His practice includes representing both institutional and private clients in fund investments and in structuring and negotiating joint ventures, seeding, and revenue sharing. He also provides counsel to fund managers on the formation and restructuring of investment funds.

Bae has formerly served as counsel at Ashurst in Seoul for two years. She specialises in power and renewables, oil and gas, mining and infrastructure. She frequently acts for government agencies, development financial institutions, export credit agencies, commercial banks and international sponsors on project acquisition, development and financing in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Mohamed Noh, who recently joined Greenberg Traurig’s M&A practice in Singapore, previously served as a local principal at Baker McKenzie for one year. He focuses on cross-border transactions, including M&A, private equity and corporate finance. He has also advised multinational companies, financial institutions and private equity firms on their acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, spinoff and carve-out transactions, and other investments. Moreover, he has advised Asian institutions interested in acquiring and/or developing assets in Australia and the Middle East.

“They are part of an overall strategy at Greenberg Traurig to support our clients’ needs in key financial and business markets and centres of innovation, with strong recent growth in both Asia and the Middle East, as well as the United States,” Rosenbaum told ABLJ.

Greenberg Traurig launched its Singapore office in 2022 with shareholder Joseph Kim leading the firm’s Asia energy and infrastructure practice. In 2024, the office expanded to include M&A capabilities.
