Three of Shearman & Sterling’s partners in Asia will leave for rival Ashurst, including the head of Korea Anna Chung in Seoul, Singapore-based partner Jean-Louis Neves Mandelli and counsel Scott Baggett.
The trio will join Shearman & Sterling as partners in the energy and infrastructure practices.
Along with the three new Asian hires, other Shearman & Sterling partners in the UK will also join Ashurst, namely Julia Derrick and Sanja Udovicic. The new partners will increase Ashurst’s global project development and finance offerings to capture opportunities driven by the green energy transition.
Lee McDonald, the firm’s partner and global division co-head of projects, energy transition and real estate in Sydney, said project development and finance are the key areas of strategic focus for Ashurst.
“The rapid pace of the energy transition combined with rising energy costs and declining energy security is driving demand for expert legal advice, and this team of highly regarded practitioners will allow us to further support our clients to navigate the challenges and opportunities this presents,” said McDonald.
Chung joined Shearman & Sterling in 2006 as counsel, gained a partnership in 2018 and opened the Korea office the next year. Mandelli joined Shearman & Sterling in 2008 and was promoted to partner in 2020.
