Two former AZB & Partners lawyers, Shameek Chaudhuri and Arvind Ramesh, have teamed up to start Vritti Law Partners, that will initially start operating from Mumbai.

Chaudhuri, who was a senior partner, and Ramesh, who was a partner, have spent 18 years and 12 years at the firm, respectively. Both lawyers said the aim to strengthen current ties and develop new ones to provide “credible and quality solutions” will be the goals of their new endeavour.

The duo said the new firm will pursue its core values through critical analysis, an understanding of India’s regulatory system and thorough study.

The firm’s name is derived from the Sanskrit term vritti, which signifies levels of thinking or streams of consciousness. Vritti will be expanding its footprint to New Delhi and other Indian cities in due course, the founders added.

Chaudhuri, who specialises in advising domestic and international enterprises on general corporate work, M&A and banking, had spent four years at Dua Associates prior to joining AZB.

Ramesh worked for Deloitte and KPMG before joining AZB, and his forte includes advising on joint ventures, M&A, and restructurings, with a focus on private equity funds and insurance companies.
