Notable leaders shared inspiring stories to celebrate the contributions of women in the legal industry at the International Women’s Day Evening Drinks 2023 on 10 March at One Degree 15 Marina at Sentosa Cove.
The event featured notable women leaders sharing their inspiring stories of perseverance and progress, providing insight into how women can continue to play a key role in shaping a better future.
They included Lara Quie, a Singapore-based executive coach and business development consultant, Stefanie Yuen-Thio, joint managing partner of TSMP Law, and Corinna Lim, the executive director of the Association of Women for Action and Research (AWARE).
The women’s chapter of the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association (SCCA) and the Law Society of Singapore’s women in practice committee co-organised the event.
The Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Law of Singapore, Rahayu Mahzam, attended as the guest of honour. The event was also an opportunity for private practice lawyers and in-house personnel to connect, with both men and women invited.
“This year’s International Women’s Day gave many of us women lawyers and legals alike an opportunity to reflect, re-centre and recharge on the multiple roles that women juggle, to share our needs, as well as be aware of the blind spots that may sometimes exist so that we can all support each other better,” the SCCA’s co-president, Renita Sophia Crasta, told Asia Business Law Journal.
“The energy and enthusiasm from all who attended were palpable, and it serves as a reminder of the incredible power that comes when women come together to support and inspire one another. Events like these also provide us with an opportunity to pause, connect, and reignite our commitment to working towards a more just and equitable world for all.”
Quie led a well-being practices workshop followed by a group discussion on women’s perspectives in managing legal teams, which was moderated by the Law Society of Singapore’s women in practice committee.
Yuen-Thio, of TSMP Law, and Corinna Lim, of AWARE, Singapore’s leading gender equality group, discussed community issues for women in a panel session. The event wrapped up with an evening drinks celebration.
“Let us continue to support and uplift one another and work together to break down the barriers that hold women back towards a more caring and equitable ecosystem,” Crasta added. “Together, our legal community can only flourish further.”
