Following protests over amendments to the Information Technology (IT) Rules proposed in February 2022, the Ministry of Electronics and IT on 6 June invited comments from stakeholders. The ministry’s website reposted the draft a week after pulling it off its website.

The newly posted draft assured that the proposed amendments were in the “interests of digital Indians” first, saying the amendments aimed to protect the constitutional rights of citizens from being contravened by “big tech platforms”.

The new post shows no significant changes have been made to the amendments proposed in February 2022, while the note uploaded with the draft amendments gave a detailed reasoning for the amendments added by the ministry, and said the amended rules would provide additional avenues to address and solve grievances and ensure accountability standards.
