Introduction

Liu Yingzi’s practice focuses on intellectual property, corporate and investment, and dispute resolution. Liu provides full legal services in the literature and art, entertainment, sports and media sectors. Liu’s representation, cases and achievements in recent years include, advising and structuring, due diligence, financing, production, distribution, selling and purchasing, licensing deals, copyright protection and infringing analysis for a number of TV and film companies, TV programmes, animations and comics, sports competitions, dramas, concerts, exhibitions, IP merchandising and licensing, art works and merchandise, music, education, advertising, games, e-commerce, live streaming and other creative projects. She is especially experienced in cross-border transactions.

Liu has advised on transactions and matters in the sport industry, such as operation, IP protection, broadcasting and sponsorship of competitions, foreign direct investment, athletes’ daily entertainment deals and doping matters. In 2021, Liu was admitted as a Member of the Council of the China Law Society – Sports Law Research Association and as a Member of the Council and the Deputy Secretary-General of the Beijing Law Society – Research Association on Sports Law and Olympic Legal Matters Research Association.

Liu specialises in litigation and arbitration in the literature and art, entertainment, sports and media industries, and has represented parties in several significant copyright cases. In particular, she represented the Huayi Brothers and director Feng Xiaogang against the plaintiff in the first instance of the copyright infringement dispute over the motion picture, Youth, and won judgment for the clients; represented Flower Film & TV Co. against Jiang Shengnan in the second instance of the copyright infringement dispute over the TV series, The Legend of Miyue. She has advised a number of A-list talents, influencers and agency and managing companies in their daily entertainment deals and investment transactions.

Social Activities & Honours: Liu was admitted as an expert to the Legal Experts Database by the China Association for Small and Medium Commercial Enterprises in 2021, and has volunteered as the litigation expert for the Supreme People’s Court of the PRC since 2020. Further, Liu was recognised by The Legal 500 as a recommended lawyer in the TMT sector for the Asia-Pacific region in 2021.
