Yoon & Yang has welcomed back Joseph Lee, an international construction and arbitration expert, as a partner at its Seoul headquarters.
Lee has worked at K&L Gates and Pinsent Masons in Doha, and brings with him a wealth of experience advising South Korean companies on their projects in the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.
Yoon & Yang noted one of Lee’s most high-profile cases included advising a Korean contractor JV of four major construction companies in respect of the Karbala Oil Refinery Plant in Iraq. Lee prepared the strategic roadmap, claims documentation and various legal position papers so the JV could successfully negotiate a contract amendment for an additional USD1.5 billion with a state entity. His efforts were pivotal for the JV in resolving the dispute commercially, rather than through a formal dispute resolution procedure.
Lee Junsang, the managing partner of Yoon & Yang, said Lee’s expertise would boost the firm’s international construction advisory and dispute resolution team’s ability to assist South Korean companies to “aggressively reach out to overseas construction markets”.
