O’Melveny’s M&A partner Alan Bao has joined White & Case’s Beijing office as a partner to strengthen its corporate practice.

Bao specialises in M&A, capital markets and general corporate matters, particularly in the financial institutions, private equity, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, technology, and energy sectors.

Last year, Bao acted as one of the leading partners advising China’s medical technology company, Acotec Scientific Holdings, on the voluntary partial offer made by US-listed Boston Scientific Group. The HKD4.07 billion (USD520 million) M&A was the largest acquisition of a Chinese medical technology company by a multinational since 2014.

White & Case’s head of global M&A practice, John Reiss, said there had been a noticeable need in China- M&A transactions, driven by increasing interest from the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region.

The firm has been strengthening its M&A team this year, hiring five partners, including John Cahill, who joined the Hong Kong office last month.
