Watson Farley & Williams has strengthened its energy offering in Singapore with the addition of project development and finance veteran, Clarinda Tjia-Dharmadi, as a partner from McDermott Will & Emery.

Tjia-Dharmadi, who has also joined Watson Farley’s global energy sector steering group, and her fellow partner at McDermott Merrick White both moved to the UK firm in February this year, Asia Business Law Journal has learned. As part of her new role, she would be directly responsible for leading the strategic expansion of the UK firm’s existing energy practice, Watson Farley said.

Watson Farley’s global energy sector co-head Henry Stewart said: “I am thrilled to welcome Merrick and Clarinda to WFW. Their experience and expertise across the energy sector is second-to-none and will transform our offering in Asia and be instrumental in helping our clients achieve their objectives in this thriving region.”

Having started her legal career as an associate at Latham & Watkins in 2000, Tjia-Dharmadi specialises in project development and finance with more than two decades of experience advising on power, oil and gas, petrochemicals, infrastructure and mining projects in Asia. Before joining McDermott as a partner in 2022, she had served as the global co-chair of Latham’s energy practice.

For McDermott, US securities and corporate finance partner Siddhartha Sivaramakrishnan is currently the only lawyer listed for the US firm’s Singapore office, according to its website.
