Tata Motors was in India’s Supreme Court in April to hear a petition on the long-running dispute over the acquisition of land at Singur in West Bengal. Tata builds the world’s cheapest car, the Nano, at its plant in Singur.
In January, the Calcutta High Court dismissed 19 public interest litigations that had been filed against the controversial land acquisition.
The petitioners had requested the court to quash the acquisition as there were several discrepancies in the state government’s notification to obtain the land.
